From what I have been able to find, CAPE GEORGIA operated exclusively in the Pacific Ocean during World War II and may have served, at least for part of her career, as a troop transport.
For sources of photographs of World War II-ear U.S. merchant ships, see this webpage: http://www.usmm.org/photosource.html. The Mariners Museum library in Newport News, Virginia, may be a good bet. Mr. Hultgren, second on the list of sources, probably would not be a useful source in that his collection focuses on Liberty ships, a class different from C1 ships.
Good luck and I hope the above information is useful.

I have been researching this ship for some time. My Uncle, William James Cox, jr. was an engineer on this ship boarding, 8/8/1947 in Mobile, AL; 8/24/1947 in Houston, TX and 12/3/1947 again in Houston. This is from his Merchant Marine Log book. His ship prior to this was ss Napa Victory boarded 5/2/1947 in New Orleans, LA. After leaving the SS Cape Georgia he was full time Navy.

My mother, Phyllis Holbrook, US Army Nurse, 2nd Lieutenant, was aboard the SS Cape Georgia in the Pacific on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 29, 1945. I have a copy of the menu with a number of signatures from that day, if you would like a photocopy, I will be happy to send it. Capt. A.C. Aitken, Jr. was the Commander.

G'day Ron from 'Down Under,'
Thank you so much for your information on the SS Cape Georgia. Your information has certainly helped me to able to now cross the t's and dot the i's, in regards to the ship that my Aunt came to America as an Australian War - bride after WWII. In the wonderful world of genealogy and research, a person is truly blessed in this day and age in regards to where I can source information from. I have been for the past ten years or so researching and putting together my family tree and my research had mainly been centred on England, Europe, New Zealand and Australia and up till now I had not done very much research in the USA. An area of research I became interested in has been ships, mainly because of my own association and service within the Royal Australian Navy and for the fact that Australia was first settled by convicts and our early settlers came to Australia by ships Thanking you once again, Francis
