Eight years ago, or thereabouts, Pete Sorenson rounded up the Armed Guard veterans he could find in this corner of Southern California and got them together for lunch. There were two dozen of us, and over the years we turned out on the second Saturday of every month. Our number has dwindled. Ten turned up yesterday (not including me; I don't trust myself to drive in the rain). We're all a little grayer, a little less sure of foot. We swap sea stories and, like old people everywhere, discuss our infirmities. -- Fran

Unfortunately, I have NEVER attended ANY gathering of Armed Guard personnel. IF there are any within "sound" of this keyboard please get in touch with me and see if we can get together somehow, someway, someday. Dates could be narrowed down until most can make it. Raindate, etc. can be considered. Maybe John Haynes and I can work together to help organize such an assembly!!! John let me know what you think. Thanks to all. Roy Brown

Roy,
There is an Armed Guard Veterans "crew" that meets regularly in Logansport, Indiana, the last Friday of each month for lunch. That looks to be over 120 miles northwest from you in Richmond. Kind of a long sail for lunch. Contact William and Betty Zwyers, 9239 N. State Road 29, Frankfort, In. 46041 765-258-3353.
Or you'll just have to move to Florida. There are at least four crews that meet there.
