Search for my uncle's history

Posted by John Grigaliunas on October 18, 2011, 6:30 pm

I am searching for records or any info on my uncle William John Schultz from Chicago Il. I have no other info on him other that I know he was an armed guard on a merchant ship. I believe he manned a 40mm pompom gun. I haven't heard from him since 1970's and I'm sure he has probably passed on by now. But I am sure I found his picture on the armed guard website off the SS James W Johnson. Uncle bill never said much about his service except what I've already stated. I lost touch with him when I was sent into foster care as a kid. I am a vietnam era submarine vet and would like to know more about his service. I am sure there are shipmates out there that can help me and at least find a trail to follow for leads. I thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
