In July we took the "Ghost Fleet Cruise" on the Jeremiah O'Brien. We were told it was sold out which totaled about 600 passengers plus crew members, and accomodations were satisfactory. The crew was very congenial and helpful. In fact, I met one crew member that was an ex-Armed Guard (John Stokes). So if any of you ever consider making this trip, we highly recommend it. San Francisco is still a wonderful place and the experience was fantastic. I can imagine that a cruise on the John W. Brown would be equally enjoyable. The only disappointment was Treasure Island revealing very little that was familiar.
I READ, WITH GREAT INTEREST, OF YOUR JEREMIAH O'BRIEN CRUISE, &, AM SURE I WOULD HAVE ENJOYED IT, ALSO . THOSE YEARS HAVE FLOWN BYE SO QUICKLY, BUT A VOYAGE LIKE THIS TAKES US BACK TO YESTERDAY, DOESN'T IT? A FEW YEARS AGO MY WIFE & I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF SAILING DOWN THE CHESAPEAKE BAY ON THE NEWLY REFURBISHED JOHN W. BROWN. SO MUCH HARD WORK HAD GONE INTO RESTORING IT TO SAILING CONDITION, &, THE VOYAGE BROUGHT BACK SO MANY MEMORIES OF MY TIME SPENT IN THE ARMED GUARD.
AT ONE POINT IN OUR CRUISE, THERE WAS A "MISSING-MAN FLYOVER" AND A BEAUTIFUL FLORAL TRIBUTE WAS SLID INTO THE WATER BY TWO SERVICE MEN. A VERY TOUCHING CEREMONY!
C.A., HAS MY MEMORY SERVED ME CORRECTLY? SORRY TO SAY THAT IT ISN'T WHAT IT USED TO BE, BUT THE MEMORY OF THAT CRUISE WILL STAY WITH ME ALWAYS!
WE MUST NEVER FORGET WHAT A GREAT DEBT OF GRATITUDE WE OWE TO C.A.LLOYD FOR ALL THE WORK & DEDICATION HE HAS PUT INTO KEEPING OUR MEMORIES ALIVE WITH "THE BOOK OF MEMORIES"....."THE POINTER MAGAZINE". WITHOUT C.A. & THE DEDICATION OF SO MANY, THE HISTORY OF THE ARMED GUARD WOULD LONG HAVE BEEN FORGOTTEN!
I, AND AM SURE MANY OTHERS LOOK FORWARD TO THIS PRICELESS MAGAZINE, & THE WEALTH OF MEMORIES IT PROVIDES.
OUR CAPS ARE OFF TO YOU... YOU HAVE DONE A FANTASTIC JOB, THANK YOU ALL !
