Arlington Burial

My father who recently passed was a 1942 graduate of Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy and served I believe as a reserve naval officer (engineer) on WW II Liberty ships My question can his ashes be interned at Arlington (can find the answer anywhere)

According to the www.arlingtoncenetery.net website, in 1994 inurnment of MM perwsonnel was authorized as a policy change. Check it out for more details.

My brother went through all my fathers papers and found he was discharged from the Coast Guard so I think that is all Arlington needs for his inurnment

I had all ready checked the Arlington web page and it was not clear. I called Arlington and they could not answer (their checking on it). I called Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy and they did not know. The problem is they were never recognized as veterans(which I never knew) even though my father was a US Naval Reserve Officer upon completing King Point and spent the entire war on Liberty Ships in the Atlantic and Pacific. Seems to be a WW II SNAFU. I'll keep looking

Eligibility criteria for internment or inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery can be found at the Cemetery's website, at http://www.arlingtoncemetery.mil/funeral_information/index.html.
