I'm trying locate a narrative of the conditions at sea and aboard the "LeJeune" during this crossing. My dad was aboard with the 824th T.D. battalion and I'm attempting to write a narrative for his service time. Any hints would be appreciated!
USS LEJEUNE (AP-74) was a commissioned U.S. naval vessel, serving as a troop ship during World War II beginning in 1944. She was originally a German cargo liner, seized by the U.S. She was decommissioned in 1948 and was scrapped in 1966. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Lejeune_%28AP-74%29.
Logs from LEJEUNE are likely maintained by: Textual Reference Branch U.S. National Archives 8601 Adelphi Road College Park MD 20740-6001
One can research ships' logs in person at the above location, or can arrange for research assistance, for which there will be a fee. See the above-referenced page for information.
Good luck.
