Dear Katie, I just received my Dad's records from him service in WWII and it contained the names and dates of the Liberty ships he was aboard during that time. It cost $60.00 to get the records and it took sometime but I feel it was well worth it. Good luck in your search. It is a very rewarding hobby. Sincerely, Colleen Holth

Katie,
I found a record for Edmund T. Roell arriving in Seattle aboard Liberty ship SS MORTON M MCCARVER on April 13, 1945. The ship had sailed from Manus Island in the Pacific. She had originally sailed from New York in early July 1944. Edmund Roell was part of a 28-man Armed Guard crew, was listed as a seaman first class (S1c) and had a military serial number of 711-53-75. I found this information on the subscription website Ancestry.com (www.ancestry.com).
MORTON M MCCARVER was built in 40 days by the Oregon Shipbuilding Company, Portland, Oregon, in January/February 1943. She was scrapped in Portland in 1967. See http://shipbuildinghistory.com/history/shipyards/4emergency/wwtwo/koregon.htm and scroll to hull number 636. Also see http://www.mariners-l.co.uk/LibShipsM.html#MorH and scroll to the name of the ship. The ship presumably had an uneventful wartime career as I can find no online references to anything unusual that happened to her. The ship was named after Morton M. McCarver, 1807-1875, who founded the city of Tacoma.
As next of kin, you should be able to obtain your father’s complete military service record. See this page from the website I manage: http://www.armed-guard.com/searchmil.html, in particular section A.1. Records of Individuals - U.S. Military. This page provides information on obtaining service records from the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, MO.
Good luck.
