Does anyone have information on the SS John F Appleby being involved in a collision during one of its many convoys? I just recently acquired a photo album kept by a member of the Armed Guard and there are six photos that clearly show significant damage from another ship. Can post if interested.
Also, do we have any members who were part of the Armed Guard of this ship? The album has several unidentified group shots. I would like to be able to names to the faces. I have available crew lists from Ancestry.com, but not all convoys are accounted for and the personnel changed.
Thanks.

according to my father's notes, his ship was on its way from Cuba to Philadelphia and was hit by a munitions ship while in the Chesapeake Bay. the hole was large enogh to drive a pick truck through and was 16 inches from the magazines. two holes floodedas did the magazines aft. They were able to beach the ship and with help the next day the ship got to Philadelphia. Happened in 1944
