looking 4 buddys that served with me on these ships

looking for my old friend Hurley from south bostonwho served with me aboard the SS Juan Flaco Brown 1945 D+7. I am his son in law see my email address above. My father in law is 88 years old and was involved in the Murmansk run twice & PQ 17 aboard the SS Winston Salem. He Also was aboard these ships. SS Winfeild Scott, SS Esso Augusta, SS James Farell, SS John Mitchell, SS Adolph Sutrd, SS Occidential, SS Clara Barton, SS Thomas U. Walter

My uncle, Jack Field, was a Navy Armed Guard veteran from West Virginia who served on the Juan Flaco Brown. I would be interested in any information about his service on that Liberty Ship.

In reading about Convoy PQ17 I see that the Winston-Salem ran aground and was abandoned by her crew near Novya Zemlya islands. Later survivors from other ships helped unload some of the ship's cargo and oil so as to refloat her, and then they sailed her into port, she being the last ship to make port. About two months later in September of 1942 she sailed out of Russia safely back to Britain. Did her crew bring her back? What happened to them?

The book to read on this is "The Destruction of Convoy PQ-17" by David Irving. I believe the crew went home on the escorting trawlers and other ships. They were not very happy at all.
