Hi Duane. The Exchange was originally built as a C-3 type cargo ship by Bethlehem Steel Company in Quincy, Mass. She made several voyages as a freighter out of New York until September 1943 when she went to Eureka Shipbuilding Corp. at Newburgh, New York to be converted to a troopship. Conversion was completed in mid-December 1943, and she then made numerous voyages in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.
