Re: SS Gilbert Stuart, January 1945
Mr. Carlson, I read the response to Sheri and was really surprised to see that you'd had an inquiry from my father's son, sent on August 2 of 2012. I knew my father had no son. After a little searching and thinking I decided that because my post had only V Clancy, you assumed I was a son. I'm not. I did finally get some ship logs that told of my father's death that I do not believe for a minute are accurate, although written on the side of the page is "fully investigated", along with a signature and some numbers. I attempted to find more about the investigation but could not. Although requesting a death certificate from the first port they went to after his burial at sea, nothing was found. They did search but found nothing, I was told. I can find nothing from the Social Security Dept. because I have no death certificate and the matter was closed, I was rudely told. I did receive a small SS check every month until I was about 18 but no record can be found of that either. My husband and I did lots of searching, writing and did receive information from several helpful people. You may be one of them but time has passed and so has my memory to a degree. We have a thick loose-leaf notebook of all we found which is far more than I knew when we began searching. If you helped I have a record of it in my book or online--and thanks.
