Hello Richard. My NY mother married a Kiwi and came to New Zealand in 1945-6 on the Permanente. She was told in San Fran that the ship was a great sea boat. It surely had a long, and interesting life. 1954 we returned to NY on the Zuiderkruis and returned to NZ on the Port Wyndham which had been torpedoed in the bow in the latter months of the war.
