Gerry: For years I walked a mile or two every morning, then had to give it up because of the pain. I thought I needed a hip replacement (or two) but was told the problem was spinal stenosis. It must be a common disorder, because my newspaper is full of ads every day promising an instant cure for it, along with half a dozen or more other causes of back pain. I know of no sufferer who has benefited from surgery. I not only can't walk very far, I have trouble getting from one room in my house to another. My doctor (not the surgeon) is good about prescribing pills for the pain. So, as long he does, I'll grin and bear it, as they say. Like you, I'm happy to see the end of winter. But I'm not wild about summer heat, either, particularly while the drought continues in Southern California. Have faith. It could be worse. -- Fran
