the torpedoed vessel SS Peter Sylvester we received a communication from the Governor of California (the Sylvester was registered in Los Angeles) in it he thanked the crew of HMS Activity for their efforts.
The enemy submarine was still in the area when we
stopped to make the rescue and he thought a token to show the gratitude of America would be in order.
We were all eventually awarded a US Navy Commendation.
Tell me Ron, how many Armed Guard were on the Sylvester?
In passing may I remark that the position in the
South Indian Ocean where we spotted the survivors
is approximately where debris that maybe from the
lost Malaysian airliner has been sighted.
