Father's USN discharge states gun pointer on two different Victory Ships , Kenyon and Kingston. He never said anything about armed guard. These ships were late in terms of WWII. Did the Navy just take them over in wartime then return them to shipping companies after the war? The time from launch to delivery is short.
Is it possible to find out where they went or is that just not public info?
What would daily life be like? Lots of maintenance work with some tense times or pretty mundane? This would have been both theaters.
What was the job of a gun pointer? He always said gunners mate. Any difference?
I would appreciate any comments. I just always had an interest in trying to understand his experience. He was a proud veteran and always thought his service was the most important thing he ever did and I'm inclined to agree.
