Re: Pearl Harbor Day - where were you?
Ron, We lived in Augusta, GA. My family had returned home from church. My mon had prepared her usual Southern family dinner followed by a family sing-a-long around the piano (except me. I can't sing a lick.) Someone turned on the radio and we heard the news. Everyone was shocked and were wondering what would happen next. I had graduated from high school that spring and turned 18 on May 1st and was working at Sears. The next day, Dec. 8th several of us at Sears took off work and went to the recruiting office where I, along with some of the others, joined the Navy. One week later, Dec.15th, we were in Boot Camp at NOB Norfolk. Four weeks later I was in the Naval Armed Guard and destined for the Murmansk Run. John Haynes
