My great-grandfather, Melvin M. Morris was an Armed Guard veteran. He passed away in 1992, however, not without leaving a ton of history in my grandmother's possession. Recently I was able to go through tons of my grandfathers items that he kept from his Navy days in the Armed Guard as a gunner. Amongst the items of interest is a card that says "Armed Guard Center Pacific" then goes on to say "Ancient Order of the Deep" from the S.S. Henry H. Blood. This was given to my grandfather on 29 Nov 1943.
I also have a very large graduating class picture dated March 20th, 1943 that says "Company 114-43, Regiment 2, Battalion 5, Farrugut, ID-- H.C. Pegg C.Sp.Co, CMDR" Now I don't think this was an Armed Guard training picture, but possibly... however I think my grandfather was stationed in San Diego for Armed Guard training... in any event, the backside has the name of every single sailor in the picture. I will be attempting to transcribe it soon. If anyone here is interested who have connections to either the S.S. Henry H. Blood or Farrugut, ID (or AGC PAC or AGC San Diego) please let me know.
Grandfather passed away when I was a teenager. Wish I could have shared this with him!
