Also a couple of years ago I made a call to the SM from my first Liberty ship. He had been to signal schools together and he got us both assigned to a new Liberty in Portland ME. Then the Navy put on a third SM which was unusual at the time. All went well until we got to Boston and suddenly I was detached for a transferd to a Liberty in Boston which was loaded and ready to sail but without a SM Since the Navy system was simple - alphabetical - I was odd man out and I never saw my friend again. We talked at length during our phone talk but he lives in MA. My most memorable shipmate was the RM on my last Liberty. We were good friends and like so many I lost contact over the years. About 3 years ago on a whim I googled his full name and came up with an Ancestry wev sites which was his family tree and there was his name and some remarks as to his Navy experiences. I Ej-mailed a cousin whose address was with the site and explainedy my memory of his cousin who has since passed away. He told me that my friend had gone to Hollywood in the early fifties and became a bit actor in movies and later TV. I have seen one movie with his name as a credit but most were not all that memorable even though he was reconizable after all those years. . I have often thought about about what we did in life and RM shipmante as an actor is one of great interest to me. f
