The SS William S Ladd was a liberty ship that was assigned to Weyerhaeuser shipping co.We were
the ship directly in front of the SS Marcus Daily
when it was hit by a suicide plane when we were
going into LEYTE Gulf.Her anchors were disabled
and she moored to us for 3 days.She was hit by
another suicide plane the morning of december 10
1944 and we were sunk that same evening by a twin
engine betty that suicided into our no 4 hold.We
had about 250 tons of artillery shells and about
800 drums of gasoline left to be unloaded.We had
six injured and nobody killed.
