As mentioned in a prior post, I recently acquired a photo album that belonged to a member of the Armed Guard of the SS JOHN F APPLEBY. The album contains mostly group and individual photos taken aboard the ship.

My question is, how prevalent was photo-taking on such ships? I would think that, with small crews and the nature of their assignments, the men would have had little time to snap photos of their ship and buddies. Would there maybe have been a prohibition or restriction of cameras on these ships? I bought the album because I liked the photos. However, I also have to believe they are somewhat scarce.
