Hi guys.

Here is a general Navy question, not specific to Armed Guards. When your ship duty was over and you were assigned to shore duty, what sort of jobs were "typically" assigned? That is, if you were a gunner, signalmen, quartermaster, etc., what in the world did you do while assigned for months to some land base? Can't imagine you sat around shooting guns across parking lots, or sending blinker light from building to building.

Since you obviously weren't doing your "normal" jobs, what did you do, and how did you keep from getting rusty in your rate, so you were ready to go back to sea when shore duty was up?
