Re: Did you ever worry about who would win WWII?
Lots of people, myself included, worried that we might lose the war until about the end of November of 1942, when things had begun to change. Near the end of October, the British Eighth Army under General Montgomery began a big counteroffensive at El Alamein in Egypt. In early November, an Anglo-American force invaded Morocco and Algeria. In Russia, the Russians began the great counteroffenive at Stalingrad about the middle of November, and in the Pacific, two great naval battles took place near Guadalcanal in mid-November in which the Japanese were turned back. President Roosevelt finally said in a November speech that it now appeared we would probably win the war. There had been a great naval victory at Midway in June which raised some hope, but not much.
