Just go to Google or whatever the name of your search engine and type in "ss Raphael Semmes, torpedoed in 1942" and you will see several sites devoted to this ship. There are even pictures of the survivors, pictures of the two rafts the survivors used and a picture of the ship that rescued them. Apparently the German sub took about ten wounded survivors aboard the sub and treated them and then released them and gave all the survivors food, cigarettes, water and gave them directions to the nearest land. Of the crew of about 35, there were about 17 or 18 survivors. The ship sank quickly, in about two minutes, and lifeboats could not be lowered.
