I took a short leave when my ship docked in Philadelphia and went home to Maine by train as the ship was going to be in port loading for a few weeks. The crew was being downsized and that
part of the crew went to Brooklyn for reassignment. Some of the crew that was staying on took short leaves also if they lived close enough to make the round trip. Travel then was by
train and bus. After my second trip on that ship
the whole crew was taken off and we were sent to Brooklyn for reassignment and I was given 25 days
leave and then reassigned. After that my assignments were all Pacific/Asiatic and Treasure
Island. And no leaves. Al
