Hi Steve. my SSModel Derfflinger kit came with four full hull sections --- bow, bow + amidships, stern + amidships and stern. If you provide me with an email address, I can send you photos, both of the separate hull sections and of the completed model. I would have preferred to build a Gaga kit (the hull sections are much easier to glue together smoothly) but wanted the 1917 version of the ship with the sturdy tripod foremast and without those troublesome anti-torpedo nets and booms.

I didn't know that there were two different Derfflinger kits. Mine is a Gaga Model kit in orange resin with a two piece full hull in Jutland fit. The kit doesn't have the nets, shelves or booms. I scratch-built the shelves and nets so far but still need to add the booms. I assume your kit is a ssmodel version with two upper hull and two lower hull parts. Or is it a waterline version with four upper hull parts? In any event, please post when it appears on Tim's site. I would really like to see it.

The Derfflinger model I selected came with the tripod foremast (very well cast, incidentally) and a smooth upper hull with no anti-torpedo nets, just as it should have been for this ship after its post-Jutland repairs. The full hull was still in four sections with imperfect alignment and joining, but after extensive puttying and sanding it resulted in (to me) a satisfactory model. I'm awaiting my earlier submission of photos of the Japanese battleship Settsu to "the other site" to appear (it's been two weeks; my two previous submissions, the USS Marblehead and USS Pensacola, were displayed on that site the next day!), then I'll submit my photos of the Derfflinger. And I still have my photos of the Italian battleship Dante Alighieri ready to submit.

Did you add a tripod for the 1917 Derfflinger? I'm building the 1916 Jutland fit with torpedo net, shelves and booms but with a pole foremast. During the repairs from Jutland, Derfflinger dropped the nets and net booms but added a tripod. If you have the nets and booms on your build, what material did you use for the net booms? I bought some piano wire for the booms but it is hard to cut.

1/350 SMS Derfflinger (1917), another 3D-printed kit from China. Recently completed, and am now awaiting delivery of my next 3D-printed kit, the French heavy cruiser Algerie. So many models, plenty of time, but less and less room in my home to display them!

I've got a number of kits started as usual.
I picked up some of older kits cheap so I started building them:
White Ensign Models HMS Renown in 1941 fit in pre war navy gray.
Hi Mold USS Maryland kit in 1940 fit.
Also, in various building stages on the shelf:
Flyhawk HMS Hood 1941
Triumph Models HMS Lion 1915 (Nearly complete).
