Asymmetry can be very "regionalized." The closer US forces get to the Chinese mainland, the more the equation changes. Swarms of missiles and drones will tip the balance point rather quickly with potentially near exponential growth.

China could attack convoys in the middle of the Pacific and even closer to the US coast lines and it would be more symmetric as both forces would need to project that power a further distance. Once distance tilts in the favor of one side, symmetry is a narrower band and more rare.
