Im going to say that the photo shows a 12R pattern. MS2 calls for "bands" of color. This shows waves. Navsource copy of the photo calls it Measure 12 Mod
Compare to a sister ship, the Oberon (AK-56/AKA-14), a Federal built ship, also in 1942. The wide dark band is a deep boot-top for variable draft due to cargo load.
