I Miss those Frog kits. They produced so many aircraft and ship models that were not produced by Airfix, like the Barracuda. I had the Exeter and the Royal Sovereign, as well as a 1:500 Cossack. I still have an unbuilt Russian produced Royal Sovereign. You're right, the Russian versions certainly did not emphasize box presentation.

Here in the UK Frog did a small range of 1/500 Ships back in the 60"s/70's. They sold the moulds to Russia in the late 70's and you often see them for sale in the UK very cheap. Some of them come in dreadful boxes with Cyrillic writing and a picture on the front that bears no resemblance to the model inside. Hence very cheap. In particular there is the Battleship Royal Sovereign/Revenge and the Cruiser HMS Exeter. They may have bits you could nick for your project.
Frog also sold Renewal 1/500 and Hasegawa 1/450 under licence but they are not so easy to find and usually not cheap so you probably wouldn't want to buy them just for the parts.
As many of the parts are very crude you could try copying them using the old school "press part into plasticine to make a mould" technique which I used to do in my mis-spent youth. They were a bit rubbish but I'm guessing fine scale fineness is not what you're looking for.

Does anyone have a source for parts for 1/500 metal/wood models such as Comet, Framburg or South Salem? I'm looking mainly for US WW2 Cruiser and Battleship Catapults, A/C Cranes, quad 40mm tubs & 20mm sets or singles. Not looking to super detail, prefer original style metal or copies, but plastic (discarded from kits?) 3D Print or PE will be considered. Scaled within range of about 50 points (1/450 -1/550) might work as many models made were odd (box) scales. Just trying to improve look by relpacing missing parts. Thank you for any information.
