Reading the comments provided with the original image linked, there is this:
"Above the waterline, the added volume seems to only have "padded out" the taper found on older ships. I suspect this was very deliberate, as this new stern sharing the same geometry as the lower hull will yield significant cost and labor savings due to needing to roll fewer different curvatures of plate."
IF true (I have not really studied it at all) you might well be able to do something like that. Study it carefully, though. As you know, I'm a waterline guy. I don't analyze below that much (if at all.)
This other image, linked in the same discussion, might be helpful?

I hope this is workable for you! (I hope somebody decides to do this subject full hull...)

I noticed the stern part on the sprue. It seems reflecting this special feature. Since my ships are all full hull, just wonder if I can fix Hobby Boss's lower hull to this waterline kit.

I have a Dream Model Flight III on order. Will let you know after I get it and get a chance to study it. I studied it pretty carefully before ordering.
From images shown of the model, it has the starboard aft superstructure extension, the single anchor and chain (in common with the continuation Burkes...the ones after DDG-112,) SPY-6 and SPQ-9B. Without at least these features plus the wider stern, it would not be any model I would buy. I've not seen any good direct stern views, but from images like this:

One can clearly see the stern does not taper, which is a "good sign." I expect it will be correct. And this would be the reason they did not just print a bunch of superstructure parts and tell you they were "for the Hobby Boss kits," or the like. They actually include an injection molded hull. Can't particularly sell any kit as a Flight III without that. They aren't the same hulls.

Thank you so much, Ralph for sharing. I wonder if the new Dream Model's DDG-125 reflects this feature.

I was literally noodling around online when I stumbled onto this good comparison shot of the transom differences between the flights:

In case anyone is interested.
