My Epson scanner came with a clear, heavy plastic, open 'sleeve' with a fold over section.
I acknowledge that's not the most coherent description, but this 'sleeve' is designed to locate a photo or document in place and flat as it is scanned. The fold over section is opened and the document placed on the flat transparent piece of the sleeve, tight into the fold line. The fold-over piece is then closed onto it and in doing so flattens it.
I don't know if this would be suitable for a severely curled photo, but it's worked for me on non-severely curled items.

I purchased a collection of old photographs.
I believe some from this group have done similar or collect photos for detailing purposes.
How does one flatten old, as in WW1 era, photographs which have curled and instead of flat are now somewaht U-shaped?
