This is a re-post of one on Britmodeller.com by "robgizlu" ;
Is a new book due to be published by Troubadour publishing written by Richard Dennis that many of you will know from his invaluable and ever-helpful contributions here as @dickrd.
I mentioned this in my HMS Minerva thread the other day but then thought, as not everyone will want to read my WIP that it deserved it's own thread.
Dick, together with a group of researchers have scoured original archives and the result of this research has challenged our previous assumptions that all Royal Navy Warship hull bottoms ove rthe last 100 years or so were red!
Dick has reviewed original records for over 800 ships from Royal and Commonwealth Navies to ascertain that many had Grey or differing hull bottom colours from red.
This new book builds on an article that he originally wrote for Sovereign Hobbies. Since it's publications we've begun to see models such as that of HMS Hood appear with grey hulls as evidenced by this original archival research.
I cant wait to get my hands on this new volume - apparently it's due in June of this year and can be pre-ordered at:

I sincerely hope that it sells well and encourages Dick to consider a further volume on Camouflage in Royal and Comonwealth navies throughout the twentieth Century. The Revision in thought about WW2 Royal Navy colours has largely come from he and his teams further continuing research. (These revised colours are all available from Resolution Hobbies).
It's time we had an up to date modern Reference book that details this fascinating and oft bewildering subject.
I've pre-ordered my copy and I'm hoping you'll follow in my footsteps :nodding:
