although the C-87 was a B-24D - the first of which was a repaired bomber before further construction began. The nose design was also modified. Consolidated gave it the name Liberator Express.
The LB-30 had a shorter nose than the B-24D - 2ft 9ins, approx 84cm. These were named Liberator I, before the USAAF introduced names for their aircraft. The Liberator II was the first with the 'long' nose, also before production of the B-24D.
