Actually, almost all ship sponsors remain close to "their" ship for its entire service career. For example, we had lunch with current USS Indiana's sponsor when we were in Mayport for the ship's return from its maiden and marathon ~two year deployment to the Middle East a couple years ago.

By the way, Miss Esther Ross was the sponsor of BB 39. She was the teenage daughter of W. W. Ross, a pioneer pharmacist from Prescott. Although the pharmacist wasn't the governor, the governor did pick her to be the ship sponsor.

It is interesting to note that the ship sponsor for the next USS Arizona (SSN 803) currently under construction at Electric Boat is Nikki Stratton, youngest granddaughter of the late Donald Stratton, well known as one of the last Pearl Harbor survivors of BB 39's crew.
