I agree, moderator is a thankless job. It is difficult to make it right for everybody. Therefore a Thank You to Dean!

I think the priority should be on preventing insults, trolling, spam etc.

For me, the minesweeper discussion was mostly "civil". I am not sure, if I have not seen something before it was deleted. I was at least surprised.
