Thanks.. as I suspected.
Unfortunately, a lot of the stuff put out in Japan in the early 60's were meant to be bathtub toys, which is why I asked. Even some of the better kits were disfigured by this penchant for motorization.
I will put this on "must-avoid" list & move on.
