
Here is a nice detailed shot of Maryland's fo'c'sle deck detail including how the Paravane rigging chains were stowed and also how she looked after her center anchor, chain, plate, and wildcat was eliminated.
You will have to elimate that on the kit as well!

The issue is not the width so much as the lack of a slope to the top of the bulge. These can be filed down. A comparison to a cross-section of her hull with the bulge can be found in Friedman's US Battleship book.
That's how I handled it, & I think it came out reasonably well. I mean, it is 1/700.
