Waveline kit does not have the bulges at all. I bought this kit and Loose Cannon's 1942 Colorado kit and swapped out the hulls to present both in 1941.

The issue is not the width so much as the lack of a slope to the top of the bulge. These can be filed down. A comparison to a cross-section of her hull with the bulge can be found in Friedman's US Battleship book.
That's how I handled it, & I think it came out reasonably well. I mean, it is 1/700.
