I grew up in Tampa and still live there. The American Victory has been a great addition to the city. She is operable, and at times she has been taken out for short voyages under her own power. Across the channel, to the port side of the ship, is the site of the old Tampa Shipbuilding Company (TASCO) which built Admirable Class minesweepers and Cannon Class DEs for the navy during WWII. USS Slater DE 766, which is a museum ship in Albany NY, was built there.
