My condolences to Loren's widow and family. His photoetch sets were among the first ones I ever purchased when I began building ship models in the 2000s after a long latent period following high school (REALLY long -- about 50 years!). I was always impressed by their accuracy, ease of use and versatility (the brass was quite resilient, unlike some from foreign competitors). He will be sorely missed by anyone who admires the beauty and historical accuracy of today's plastic (and often resin) model ship kits.

I was informed by Sherry, his wife, that Loren Perry passed away on January 16th. Loren was such a great guy and an amazing modeler. Many of you know the name, but in case you don't Loren was largely responsible for the creation of mass produced Photo Etch in the 1980s. His brand was Gold Medal Models. If you have ever had the opportunity to see any of his finished models - they are basically the definition of a perfect ship model build.
