I have never seen this photo before. On the far left is USS Arizona burning out of control. In the middle is USS Solace (the white ship). At the bottom is USS Vestal. And on the right is USS Phoenix preparing to sortie.



This is the best overhead shot of her that I've seen so far. You can clearly see that her #2 turret top is painted white (it also has two willow green stripes over the white). She was part of CRUDIV 9.
I believe she was the 3rd ship within CRUDIV9 so her #4 turret top would have a blue square over a white border.

I still find it amazing that the Japanese completely ignored her. She was a very large target sitting out there all by herself.
