My first search to see if there was a kit found only the Tamiya, and showed one nearby and very inexpensive. Another search then showed me the PitRoad offering. "Shopping" then ensued. I compared kit features, vendors and prices. The PitRoad item is a gem. I also could not find it from any domestic vendor, making the price pretty steep. I like waterline, so that was not an issue...the Tamiya is fine in that regard. Ultimately, I decided I also did not need the towed array, UUV, minesweeping USV, fold down sides for the ship's launches, nor the VLS (I have one in my spares) of the PitRoad for all the extra cost. The Tamiya's basic representation, price, and close proximity (it is due to deliver tomorrow, ordered mid-week last week) suited me fine.
However, that PitRoad kit is indeed certainly beautiful.

I recently bought the Tamiya FFM as well. I also purchased the Pitroad FFM as well as photoetch sheet from Pitroad as well. This little vessel has either waterline or a full hull for finishing.

It is waterline only, apparently.
I just recently sprang for a Tamiya 1/700 Mogami FFM.
