
Four parts...sheeesshhh. One kit I have has hull in three parts, another of a similar size ship has only 2 parts.
That sanding deal is a pain. You can simply put wet dry sandpaper on a FLAT surface and wet sand the ends of the hull pieces. One of those kits I have had a "lip" on the hull piece. The fit was superb.

No, there are four hull segments bow to stern, measuring c. 7.5", 4.5", 3", and 8", with a single "butt plate" at the end of each segment - that "butt plate" must be cut off. Robert Apfelzweig suggested that I make those four cuts with a table saw or knife and then bench sand each part before gluing. That leaves little real support for gluing the four hull segments together. Possible, but difficult.
