USS GRAY FF-1054 ( Not, 'DE'.....which I accidentally purchased a coffee mug ). Back when I First Enlisted in '84, at LBNSY.
But I was on her, for just a 2.5 years until they retired her..... I was just an OS3 then.

Hey Moe,
Which Knox were you on? My last ship was Stein, and we still had the BPDMS. And she still had the BPDMS through her life in the Mexican Navy.

yeah, I Know...I forgot the "(X)" on purpose.....
My First unit was a FF, a KNOX-class FF ( not DE, got converted by early/mid 80s ). Anyways, That ship had a 5" gun, triple torpedo tubes on both sides, helo deck, and for My ship...a BPDMS. It did have a sonar...but wasn't sure of its capabilities (I'm an OSSN) at That time.
I later transferred to a FFG for the rest of my 20+ year career, and Though FASTER had "better armament" (although it was Only my last ship that had the CIWS).
BOTTOM Line..... they were Both used as ASW platforms, which is what I trained my Whole life in C.I.C...... And THAT is what this new ship Better do....maybe have better defense for knocking down drones, which I BET..will be Way Better than firing cruise missiles at each other. But I'm out of the USN
