I think they got called to GQ. You then show up "as you are." If off duty/ sleeping, that is how you are. I wondered if it actually was GQ since there are no helmets. So, I searched and got this:

In combat, in 1942, without helmets. It took a while, obviously, to make that a standard, and probably to have enough helmets. The images of this thread are also likely a drill. Still, "GQ is GQ." You go to your station in a hurry.
