I made a trip to my local hobby shops yesterday. Before I did, I spent some time on the White Ensign website. They have nice pages of their available covers in large enough frames that you can use it for color comparisons. They also have a good reputation for color accuracy. They have FS 36270. They also have a modern USN deck gray, which they list as FS 36118. They also have a modern USN flight deck gray. They would have to be mail ordered.
What I found at the local shop were Mr. Color paints. They had 36270 and 36118, but not the flight deck gray. So I bought those two and some white because I am going to lighten for scale effect. They are both a good match for the White Ensign color charts of the same color. They are lacquers but I have worked with them before.
What I found for the flight deck gray was Tamiya XF-66. It is a close match to the WEM color chart. I will lighten it a little too.

I am about to start building the AFV Club 1/700 Knox class frigate kit. My question is about the best match in acrylic paints for the haze gray and deck gray in use in the ‘80s.
From what I have from the internet (it must be true!) that haze gray is FS 36270 and that deck gray is FS 36008. The source also said that both are available in Vallejo colors, which I have had success with, but that the Vallejo deck gray looks too light. So he used Vallejo Basalt Gray.
I would appreciate any comments or suggestions about the paint colors or the kit itself.
