Polly Scale Rail Road paint. CP Gray
Testors acrylic paint : Neutral Gray
Both acrylic paints found on E-Bay. Testors Neutral Gray just a shade darker and a little bit harder to work with, stir and stir. I would pick up a bottle of Testors acrylic thinner in small blue bottle (not the Testors Universal Acrylic Thinner) if you plan to use Testors Acrylic Neutral Gray .
Avoid Polly Scale Neutral Gray way too dark for Haze Gray and way too light for anti-skid.
Modern Deck Gray (anti-skid ):
Polly Scale RR UP Dark Gray or Guilford Dark Gray. Good anti-skid shade as newly applied. Polly Scale paints can be thinned with just plain distilled water. Both found on E Bay. Both Polly Scale and Testors Acrylic Neutral Gray are no longer made so it could be pricey on E-Bay
I used the S&S paint to match and S&S chip cards and if you lived through the paint wars some of us settled and accepted the research S&S did.
I have seen a lot of acrylic paint offerings made for the airbrush or miniatures. These companies decided to jump in on “the me too movement” and offer naval pigments when our hobby started gaining serious recognition and market share. Some of the acrylic paint offerings are wildly way off especially for USN WW2 . That makes me leery about their modern colors.

I am about to start building the AFV Club 1/700 Knox class frigate kit. My question is about the best match in acrylic paints for the haze gray and deck gray in use in the ‘80s.
From what I have from the internet (it must be true!) that haze gray is FS 36270 and that deck gray is FS 36008. The source also said that both are available in Vallejo colors, which I have had success with, but that the Vallejo deck gray looks too light. So he used Vallejo Basalt Gray.
I would appreciate any comments or suggestions about the paint colors or the kit itself.
