Yes, 36076 is for non-skid, but not just for flight decks.
Here's my reference,

FS 36076 is the color of US Navy flight deck non-skid. It is then listed as a FLIGHT deck color. FS 26008 is still the color for non-flight decks.
I thought FS 36076 did look familiar, but it has been "too long" since anyone asked what flight decks are colored. Meantime, the "reflex regurgitated response" to "what color are modern US Navy ships" is, "FS 26270 for vertical surfaces, and FS 26008 for horizontal surfaces." That is per the written specs. Hobby paints are often found as 36270 and 36008, and are certainly "close enough" in the model world.

Could I ask your source for 36076 being the current deck gray? That contradicts what I found. I located the military performance document (MIL-PRF 24712B) from 2014--listed as still in effect--which states it is still 26008. I would love to know what you have found, please?

Hi Jim! How's it going?
Those are the correct FS numbers. 36076 is the current deck grey.
However!! 36270 (It's actually 26270, but who's checking!) is WAAAAYYYY too dark for 1/700 scale.
I used it on my 1/96 Arliegh Burke and changed it to Tamiya Surface Primer. It looks much better.
Try Light Ghost grey and see what you think.
2 points, 1, the real paint starts fading immediately, so always looks lighter and patchy where they touch it up. And 2, the tone changes a lot in various light conditions.
Go with what looks good!!
Cheers!

I am about to start building the AFV Club 1/700 Knox class frigate kit. My question is about the best match in acrylic paints for the haze gray and deck gray in use in the ‘80s.
From what I have from the internet (it must be true!) that haze gray is FS 36270 and that deck gray is FS 36008. The source also said that both are available in Vallejo colors, which I have had success with, but that the Vallejo deck gray looks too light. So he used Vallejo Basalt Gray.
I would appreciate any comments or suggestions about the paint colors or the kit itself.
