As far as the AFV Knox kit, it is the first 1/700 kit I built when I returned to the hobby in the late 1990s. It is then a sentimental favorite of mine. I thought it was a great kit then, and still think highly of it now. The next kit I built after the AFV kit was an older Skywave kit, and I was surprised at how noticeable the quality difference was. I was new to it all then. I understand lots of things better now. Enjoy the build! It is definitely a fun kit.

Thanks everyone for the responses. They are helpful. In further internet searching I have found 36270 and 36008 at both Squadron and White Ensign. So I could go one of those two ways. But I am also thinking I may want to go lighter for scale effect in 1/700. I am headed to my local hobby shops this weekend to see what I can find. Any further suggestions are welcome.

I am about to start building the AFV Club 1/700 Knox class frigate kit. My question is about the best match in acrylic paints for the haze gray and deck gray in use in the ‘80s.
From what I have from the internet (it must be true!) that haze gray is FS 36270 and that deck gray is FS 36008. The source also said that both are available in Vallejo colors, which I have had success with, but that the Vallejo deck gray looks too light. So he used Vallejo Basalt Gray.
I would appreciate any comments or suggestions about the paint colors or the kit itself.
