Additionally that the Knox class in the 1980's paint scheme called for anything above the smoke stack to be painted black.
This was called a mack,combination of smoke stack and mast.It's located between the bridge and helicopter hangar.
Near the top is a circular piece which on top has the exhaust vents. From here to the top of the mast that black paint is used.

Over the years the navy's haze gray used from the 80's has FS 26270 and later FS36270 so for match's you can use Life Color's Modern USN paint set, Squadron has a modern paint set for Navy ships.
Mission models paints has a haze gray paint not sure about a deck gray though.Hope that helps. Previous Message
I am about to start building the AFV Club 1/700 Knox class frigate kit. My question is about the best match in acrylic paints for the haze gray and deck gray in use in the ‘80s.
From what I have from the internet (it must be true!) that haze gray is FS 36270 and that deck gray is FS 36008. The source also said that both are available in Vallejo colors, which I have had success with, but that the Vallejo deck gray looks too light. So he used Vallejo Basalt Gray.
I would appreciate any comments or suggestions about the paint colors or the kit itself.
