as decks on ships & boats with plank decks are actually smooth. you would actually see where the grooves are filled with oakem but the whole surface is sanded smooth. boat decks would be either painted, stained or clear coated. I would take a smooth deck model warship over a model warship that you can see & feel the grooves & also be out of scale as in to big.

A model of the HMS Royal Oak exists from the model maker Orange Hobby in 1/700 but is produced in resin. The only downside to the kit is that the deck is missing any deck relief and is smooth and doesn't show the timber decking. Not sure if any aftermarket has been produced to show the wooden decks. I’m getting back to building and sees that Trumpeter has released a 1/350 Royal Oak. Any news about the scaling it down to a 1/700 scale kit?
